Best Credit Cards for Hotel Points in 2026

Hotel points work differently from airline miles. Free night certificates, elite status, and on-property benefits (room upgrades, late checkout, breakfast) often deliver more value than the raw points themselves.

Hyatt is the clear winner. The gap between Hyatt (1.7c) and the others is why most points experts recommend Chase UR for hotel transfers -- Chase transfers to Hyatt 1:1. See full points value guide for methodology.

When to Transfer Flexible Points to Hotels

Transfer Chase UR to Hyatt

Yes -- almost always the best hotel transfer. 25,000 UR to Hyatt books category 4 hotels at $200-350/night cash rate. The math works: 1.0c Chase portal vs 1.7c Hyatt redemption. Link: transfer partner guide.

Transfer Amex MR to Hilton

Rarely worth it. Amex transfers to Hilton at 1:2, so 10,000 MR becomes 20,000 Hilton points worth ~$120 at 0.6c. You are converting 2.0c MR into 0.6c Hilton. Better to book Hilton through the Amex travel portal.

Transfer to Marriott or IHG

Generally avoid. At 0.8c (Marriott) and 0.5c (IHG), you are devaluing your flexible points significantly. The only exception: IHG's 4th-night-free benefit on award stays can push effective redemption value higher.

FAQ

Which hotel points are most valuable?
World of Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency at approximately 1.7 cents per point. The program has good sweet spots, especially at all-inclusive resorts and urban properties. Marriott Bonvoy points are worth about 0.8c, Hilton Honors about 0.6c, and IHG One Rewards about 0.5c. Hyatt points are harder to earn in bulk but stretch further when redeemed.
Are hotel credit card free night certificates worth the annual fee?
Yes, when used at the right property. The IHG Premier free night certificate has a maximum value of 40,000 points (worth about $200 at a good IHG property) while the card costs $99/year. The Hilton Aspire free night certificate can be used at any Hilton including luxury properties worth $400+ per night -- easily justifying the $550 fee when combined with the $400 resort credit.
Should I transfer flexible points to hotel programs?
Only for Hyatt. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to World of Hyatt at 1:1 and Hyatt's point values (1.7c) make the math work. Transferring Chase UR to Marriott (0.8c) or Hilton (0.6c) is generally wasteful. Amex MR transfers to Hilton at 1:2, which is even less efficient. The exception: when Hilton or Marriott have a 5th-night-free benefit on award stays.
What is Hyatt Globalist status and how do I earn it?
Hyatt Globalist is the top elite status tier in World of Hyatt. Benefits include suite upgrades, club lounge access, complimentary breakfast, and late checkout until 4pm. It requires 60 qualifying nights per year. The World of Hyatt credit card earns 5 qualifying nights per year and up to 10 additional from spend. Getting to Globalist typically requires a mix of card nights and actual stays.
